The first Thursday of the relaunched Guardian, and hence the first revamped Technology section, and I've got a humour column bit in it, called Technobile - although that reads to me like “Tech Nobile”, like a misspelling of mobile rather than “Techno Bile”, which is, I think, what it is supposed to be.
Anyway, […]

I was very nearly tied into a 12-month contract with T-Mobile. In fact, I only had two days left before my seven-day grace period with my new phone ran out. The issue was that I had chosen a new phone for one reason and one reason only - I wanted to be able to […]

Well, the first issue of the new-look Guardian is out today after 18 months hard work by those in Farringdon and the first impression is “terrific”.
In fact, the woman at the petrol station where I bought it had trouble recognising it. She was staring at it and asked me if it was mine […]

I really don't get this one. I have just moved from T-Mobile to Vodafone because T-Mobile lied about me being able to receive email. I have a new phone. It's works lovely. Fine.
Then I get a phonecall Saturday lunchtime on my mobile asking to speak to Mr McCarthy. Speaking. It's Nick from Vodafone […]

The voice of the left in the UK, The Guardian, has radically redesigned the paper after falling sales thanks to its main rival, The Independent, going tabloid.
The new design has been in the offing for over a year but the relaunch will take place this Monday (12 September) and a first official preview […]

Boat and bridge

One of my favourite photos of Porto - the traditional port boat in the foreground, looking down the river to the Atlantic Ocean with another of the city's incredible bridges visible in the background.

Sandeman

This is the sign on top of the Sandeman building - a famous brand of port named after some English fella. My dad, when he was a kid, used to think the silhouetted man with a glass of port was a shadowy figure and called him “the murderer”. Sandeman tastes lovely btw.

Porto architecture

A good shot of the variations in Porto buildings. The large cathedral and city walls at the top, with ramshackle yet charming building underneath. Extraordinary place.

Porto cafes

A view across the river to the main cafe area of town

Porto vista

Another shot of the Porto landscape. In the background at the back is the main symbol/landmark of Porto - the Tower of Clerigos.
